These terms are an agreement between you and Jaidev Singh Narula, an individual based in Singapore ("Yap", "we", "us"). There is no company behind Yap — "we" means one person.
By creating an account or using the Yap app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Yap.
We also handle personal data. How, and on what basis, is in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
You must be at least 18 years old. By using Yap you confirm that you are.
We apply this everywhere Yap is available rather than varying it by country, so that the rule is the same for everyone and there is no ambiguity about which one applies to you.
You must have the capacity to enter this agreement, and you must not be barred from using the service under the laws of the country you are in.
You sign in with Apple or Google. You are responsible for keeping access to that account secure, and for everything done through your Yap account.
You must give a display name your friends will recognise. You must not impersonate anyone.
One account per person.
Yap lets you propose a plan to a group, and lets the group answer yes or no before a deadline. That is all it is.
Yap is a way to coordinate. It is not a party to whatever you arrange. We do not organise, host, supervise, endorse or take responsibility for the plans people make, the places they go, or what happens when they get there. Meeting people and going places carries risk, and that risk is yours.
You keep ownership of everything you write in Yap — group names, plan titles, locations, messages.
To run the service we need permission to store it and show it to the right people. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content, solely to operate and provide Yap. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep it by law, and except for copies already distributed to other members of your group.
You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it.
You must not use Yap to:
Invite links are for people you know. Do not publish a group invite link publicly.
Yap includes a way to report a person or a plan, and a way to block someone so they can no longer reach you. Blocking is silent — the person you block is not told.
We review every report. We may remove content, or suspend or terminate an account, where these terms are breached. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why, and you can appeal by emailing support@yapsignal.com.
Yap works by sending notifications. If you turn them off, most of the app stops being useful and you may miss plans entirely.
We cannot guarantee a notification will arrive, or arrive on time. Delivery depends on Apple, Google, your network, your device's battery settings and, on some Android devices, whether the operating system has stopped the app in the background. Do not rely on Yap for anything time-critical or important.
We will try to keep Yap available and working, but we give no guarantee of uptime. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service, or all of it, at any time. Where a change is significant and we can reasonably give notice, we will.
Yap is free. We are not obliged to keep it that way, but if we introduce charges we will tell you first and you will not be charged without agreeing.
You can stop using Yap at any time and delete your account in the app (Account → delete account). Privacy Policy section 12 sets out exactly what that removes.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, if the law requires it, or if we discontinue the service. Except where a breach is serious or we are legally prevented, we will give reasonable notice.
Sections 5 (for content already shared), 10, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including under Singapore's Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977.
Subject to that:
Nothing here affects rights you have under Singapore's Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, or under the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, that cannot be excluded by agreement.
If you breach section 6 and that causes us loss — including a third-party claim against us — you agree to indemnify us against that loss, to the extent it results from your breach. This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by us.
Yap, its name, its logo, its design and its software are ours or our licensors'. These terms give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with the rules of the app store you got it from.
You get no other rights. Do not copy, modify, distribute, sell or lease any part of Yap.
This section applies if you downloaded Yap from the Apple App Store, and is required by Apple:
If you downloaded Yap from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. These terms are between you and us; Google is not a party and is not responsible for Yap.
Changes. We may change these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Yap after that means you accept the change. If you do not, delete your account.
Whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about Yap.
Severability. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a term, that is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
Transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a successor — including to a company we incorporate to take over the business — and will tell you if we do.
Third-party rights. Except as set out in section 13, a person who is not a party to these terms has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 2001 to enforce any of them.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore. You and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore. If you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of the law of the country you live in, and may bring proceedings there.
